Grand Teton - National Park Blanket Square
Pattern Inspiration:
This year, 2016, is the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. Smart Knits - a knitting group out of Logan, Utah - thought that a great way to celebrate the National Park Service and the sublime lands that it protects was to design a National Parks blanket. The blanket is made up of 60 blanket squares - one to celebrate each of the 59 National Parks and one square to celebrate the National Park Service itself.
Grand Teton National Park, established in 1929, is located in northwest Wyoming. The park is named after the tallest mountain in the Teton Range; the Grand Teton (13,775’). Besides its stunning mountain views, Grand Teton National Park is also home to a plethora of both plant and animal species. The fauna protected within the park boundaries include bison, moose, elk, grizzly bears, and wolves. Grand Teton is also home to over 1,000 species of plants including sagebrush, aspen trees, and Indian paintbrush. The front, lace layer of this square represents the mountains that make up the Teton Range. The back layer is the color that aspen leaves turn during the fall months – a brilliant yellow. When overlaid, the two layers combined are meant to bring to mind the view of the Tetons in the Fall; their ridges peppered with stands of yellow-colored aspens. Fall is the designer’s favorite time to visit Grand Teton National Park.
