This is the simplest of shawls, inspired by my Norwegian heritage, worked completely in garter stitch.

You can make this shawl large or small, use it as a scarf, collar, or wrap it as a cowl; add a couple of buttons (you can fasten them through the YO holes) and it becomes a capelet. In other words, this shawl can be anything you imagine…

I used my own (very first) handspun, but any worsted weight yarn will do. You can make it as big or small as you like…just cast off when you’re happy with the size!

ERRATA: Thanks to chucksgrandma for pointing out that the pattern, as written, will create a stockinette-stitch shawl. If you prefer garter stitch, like mine, then you should knit—not purl—the wrong-side rows.
