Grandma's Cabled Cape
This is a write up of a garment made by my grandmother 70 years ago. There is only the one size available, but can be adapted for wider or smaller shoulders by making the shoulder pieces wider or shorter. This size fits shoulders 18 inches across.
I would label this pattern as Intermediate because there are several pieces that need to be seamed together. And the collar is crocheted. If you don’t crochet, then you need to know how to pick up stitches in knitting, -which I don’t.
Calculating yarn needed was the biggest challenge for me. I used Paton’s Beehive Baby chunky and got about 3 and a half repeats of the cable per skein. But by weighing the cape, and a similar yarn I came up with 2,200 yards. Is there really such a thing as too much yarn?
The same yarn is used throughout.
