Grandma's Knit Chicken
This pattern is
available for free.
This is a knit chicken egg cover for Easter eggs (plastic or real). The body is knit and purl stitches for the ribbing, then all knit (garter stitch). A little crochet knowledge is needed to make the beak and the comb. A pompom maker is handy to make the tail puff. Wiggle eyes about 8mm for each side of the head. Tapestry needle to sew seams.
Use a few yards of red worsted weight yarn for the comb and a couple of feet of yellow worsted weight yarn for the beak (3 chains with long ends to tie it to the front of the head).
See pattern for size options.
