Grandmother's love
I was always frustrated by how badly hats stay put on young children. To solve the problem I added ear flaps to all children’s knit hats which worked a treat. In this design I went further and added a lining to make the hat warmer.
I used the pattern from an old knitting magazine my late grandmother gave me. This design is to honor her memory, for she would have loved to see her great-grandchildren wearing a warm hat.
The hat is designed to sit low on the back of the head, and is somewhat slouchy. You begin with a provisional cast-on, knit the ribbing with short-row ear flaps, and proceed to the outer shell, and then knit the lining starting from the provisional cast-on. This makes the hat very stretchy as there are no seams anywhere. The stranded pattern is charted, the rest is written out.
There are instructions for the child-sized hat, The difference in sizing is achieved by changing the gauge.
Size: child, head circumference appr 44 cm
Yarn:
MC – Hjertegarn Ciao Trunte, 2 skeins. 1 skein is amply enough for the outer part but not the lining.

You can use any leftovers of the similar thickness for the lining, preferably select the softest one.
