Granny Colours Autumn Tote Bag
‘Granny’s Colours Autumn Tote Bag’ / Granny Square Bag
+++
I call it Autumn Tote, because of the colours, and it is wool.
But it would be equally beautiful made with cotton yarns for a summer version.

Made of:

Laceweight yarns in different colours
I’m using a 2,5mm crochet hook for all squares; the 4-strand version could be done with 2mm
Pointed sewing needle big enough for 5 strands of the yarn
Eventually fabric for the lining
++++++++++++++++++++++++
I am using various different lace weight yarns, some 1ply and very thin, some 2ply - however none are of exactly the same thickness, so combining them takes some time and swatching.
For the big squares I use 5 to 6 strands, medium 4 to 5, for the smaller ones 3 to 4 - you have to make them in a way that several together are the same size as the others where you join them.
+++
If you use the exact same laceweight yarn in different colours, you can use :
either 5 or 6 strands together for the big squares
either 4 or 5 strands together for the medium
either 3 or 4 strands together for small squares
always the same number for the same size of square
+
In the intro I could only enter one total yarn size, but the different sizes of squares have a different total weight: small ones fingering / medium ones sport or DK / big ones DK
+++
Obviously you can use fingering/sport/laceweight yarns directly without combining - but you could need some in lace weight too, to add in case the squares are too big or small to match.

You can find a detailed picture tutorial in my Project Page ‘BertaMayer’ of the bag, same name (’Granny Colours Autumn Tote Bag’), and a separate Project Page for how I sew together - of course you can use any kind, or crochet them together.
