Granny Surprise Blanket
This blanket is a traditional granny square motif with an interesting twist. Yarn that is colour changing is used which creates wonderful colour changing motifs without the hassle of changing yarns all the time. It would be great for handspun as well.
The method of joining as you crochet also eliminates the need to sew or join all the motifs at the end. It is a lot easier than it sounds and a lot of fun. The blanket can be made as big or small as you want and when you have the desired amount of squares you then crochet a border all the way round the blanket.
Different weight of yarn can be used for the blanket, though an appropriate size hook will be needed and the amount of yarn needed will change. The size of the motifs will also change.
The modeled blanket was crocheted from King Cole mirage. One ball made up 16 squares. I used 5 balls all together for a blanket with 8 by 9 squares plus a border.
