Trust the pattern! I have seen a lot of comments on cloths similar to this one regarding the holes that form the decorative edge. When first reading through the pattern, many people don’t understand how you can get holes at either end when you only yarn over at the beginning of each round. Keep in mind… you turn the cloth with each row.
