A very similar pattern is also available for a smaller individual-sized (2 cup) tea pot: Granny’s Fair Isle Tea Cosy (small); additionally, a sister design has been created for a cover for a stand mixer: Granny’s Fair Isle Mixer Cover.

This pattern produces a tea cosy sized to fit a standard-sized tea pot (1-qt/liter size). The cosy is knit in the round, from the bottom up, with very subtle shaping and finished with a kitchener bind off along the top. An optional braided trim provides a decorative loop for hanging. The Fair Isle construction allows for an extra thickness of yarn to keep the tea warm.

Three colors of wool yarn are used in this pattern:

MC: 56g/60 yds
CC1: 28g/31 yds
CC2: 18g/19 yds (only 6 rounds)

(Amounts listed are ample to allow for differeing habits with color changes, cast-ons, bind-offs, etc.)

Please note: Be sure to do a gauge swatch to help control your finished size since there is so much variance in yarns. Also please be aware that the needle size associated with this pattern is quite a bit smaller than what one would normally use for this weight of yarn…it creates a very dense fabric, well suited for insulating the tea pot, but may feel “unnatural” while working the project.

A tapestry needle is needed for the Kitchener Bind Off.

To accomodate taller tea pots, extra single color rows could be added next to rows 9 and 23.
