Pattern accessibility There are two versions of this pattern pdf available.
Low vision: use the mobile / low vision version of the pdf on a desktop device. The main text is 24pt and all text is black on a white background. Italics are used very occasionally. There is some smaller text on the schematic illustration and sizing tables.
Screen readers: Both versions are tagged to work with screen reading software and have been tested. Images have alt text. Some information is presented in tables, these are read in the correct order but may be confusing to navigate. Abbreviations are used in the directions, they are defined but may be read aloud oddly. Numbers for multiple sizes are presented as lists of numbers within the text and may be difficult to keep track of when using a screen reader. If this is something you use we’d love your feedback on how we could improve the pattern formatting for screen readers.
#sizeinclusive to a 72” finished chest measurement.
Granton
Granton, Wardie’s older sibling, uses a thicker yarn, and has an easier buttonband more suited to the gauge. Granton is a classic long line cardigan with a deep v-neck and cosy pockets. The back and front are worked separately from the bottom up, which gives structure and allows two layers to be worked on the fronts for the neatly constructed pockets. The wide, relaxed-fit shoulders use an extended version of English tailoring, with all of the shaping at the back. The style is somewhere between a set-in and dropped shoulder with very shallow sleeve caps. The sleeves are worked flat, from the top down, on stitches picked up around the armhole. The ribbed buttonband is worked by picking up stitches around the fronts.
After blocking flat the side and sleeve seams are joined with one long seam. If you find seaming intimidating, Granton is a gentle introduction to two versions of mattress stitch: joining two vertical edges for the side seams and a horizontal to vertical edge for the shoulders.
