Great Big Firefly/Glowworm (male)
The pattern is based on Europe’s most common firefly, Lampyris noctiluca, which is also known as the common glowworm. The males of this species are much smaller than the wing-less females, and their glow is fainter than the females’. The males buzz around and look for the glowing bums of the ladies, which is why they often get confused and fly in through open windows. Poor things. The fireflies are actually beetles, though their common names suggest otherwise.
I have used Bernat’s glow-in-the-dark yarn to make this, but that yarn is listed as optional in the pattern, as I understand it is not readily available anymore.
Because of the difference between the sexes I have chosen to include “male” in the pattern name to avoid any confusion :)
