Great Grandma Anna's Norwegian Cardigan
Not currently available
Originally made circa 1910 in Norway.
This pattern is based off a sweater made by my Great Grandmother Anna Siim (maiden name Kleppe) when she was a girl. It was given to me by my Grandma Agnes in perfect condition except for a couple moth holes. I have stayed true to the way she knit the piece except for the use of circular knitting on the sleeves. In the original, there are seams up the inside of the sleeves. I expect this is because she either did not have access to circular needles, or the circular needles of the day were difficult to use. We, however, can benefit from modern plastic to create a lovely seamless sleeve. This sweater is a seamless yoke cardigan with no shaping, knit from the bottom up in stockinette stitch with stranded colorwork and 2x2 ribbing on the torso band, cuffs, and collar. A big thank you to Ann Miner of Yarn Folk in Ellensburg, WA who helped bring this pattern to reality and has inspired and supported me in my knitting endeavors. If you have the chance, please give her your patronage in-store or online @yarnfolk, #yarnfolk, and on Ravelry at YarnFolkAnn. Thank you for downloading this pattern. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
