Great Lakes
The Great Lakes are an astounding natural feature. When you stand on the shoreline and look across, it can be hard to believe it’s not only a body of fresh water, but also that you haven’t been tricked and are actually looking out at the ocean!
The Great Lakes socks celebrate these incredible bodies of water, with large bubbled cables representing their incredible size, and smaller cable twists to represent the waterways that connect them all.
Sizes
There are three sizes available in pattern, small (18cm foot circumference), medium (20cm foot circumference), and large (22.5cm foot circumference). Note that the sizes listed are measured around the sock, so find your size by measuring your foot and then subtracting 10%.
The gauge is listed for the cable chart, since the cables are likely to affect your gauge.
Yarn and Yardage
The leg of these socks is quite long, so a full skein of yarn will likely be needed for the largest size. About 240 - 350 yards will be needed.
Notions
Knitting needles (DPN’s or circulars), cable needle, darning needle, stitch markers, and sock blockers.
This design features oodles of cables, so knowledge of cabling is a must for this pattern. Basic knowledge of cuff down, in the round, heel flap and gusset sock construction is also needed.
The cable instructions are both charted and written.
