Inspired by Scotland, this double thick cozy cowl is ideal for hikes through rugged heath, sipping scotch in a cozy snug, Solving grisly murders, Impossibly slipping backwards in time, or speaking with an accent that’s as sexy as it is unintelligible.
This piece is a knit tube with a stylized Crest and Thistle pattern on one side and plaid on the other, then the Cast on and Bind off ends are seamed together to create the cowl.
Being a caring and thoughtful designer, and knowing that there are two types of knitters in the world, I’ve included instructions for both the “I’m the person that will never let the imperfections go,” and the “Whatever, it’s probably fine” personality types. Because not everyone wants to, or should have to, duplicate stitch over a 101 stitch Kitchener Graft. You’re welcome.

Yarn requirements:
Worsted Weight Yarn
Color A (teal): approx. 340 yards,
Color B (Gold): approx 240 yards.
Needle:
US 8 16” circular

Pro Tip!
The pattern as written creates a cowl that’s approximately 32” around but it’s easy make into a longer cowl, or even into a scarf if you just seam each end closed.
Each chart repeat is approximately 8 inches long and takes around 80 to 90 yards of color A and 60 to 70 yards of color B

So if you need some hand-holding math-wise it’s like this:
For a 6 foot scarf
6 feet x 12 inches per foot = 72 inches
72 inches / 8 inches per repeat = 9 repeats
90 yards per repeat of Color A x 9 repeats = 810 yards Color A
70 yards per repeat of Color B x 9 repeats = 630 yards Color B
