Grecian Urn
These lovely toe-up socks are my tribute to the Music Man. I couldn’t help but think about the Ladies’ Dance Committee and their “Ode To A Grecian Urn” as I was designing these!
The pattern begins with a round toe and features a beautiful Grecian Urn motif centered on the instep, with gusset detailing and a reinforced sole under the heel.
Though I made my socks with handspun yarn (24 wpi) made with yarn made from UltraSox Gem roving, the pattern would be lovely in many other light fingering weight solid or semi-solid yarn such as the two suggested above (multi-colored yarns or semi-solids with a great color range would detract from the pattern).
Pattern includes both written and charted instructions for the main motif.
Techniques used include: knit two together, knit through back loop, make one, left twist, slipped stitches, slip-slip-knit, wrap and turn and yarn over.
Suggested notions include: stitch markers, stitch holders or scrap yarn and a darning needle (for weaving in ends).
