Greek Mythology Socks
I went to Greece for my honeymoon and found the island Santorini was by far my favourite. All of the homes and shops are covered with beautiful tiles. The designs on the tiles represent the stories of the Greek gods and demi-gods. This pattern is dedicated to my daughter Beatrice who loves mythology and understands my obsession with yarn.
This summer sock is knit from the cuff down but it can easily be reversed for a toe-up version. It is a size medium – 64-stitch sock with two patterns to show the relief of the Greek key and flower designs. There are two patterns that are opposites. You can choose to do both patterns for your socks or one pattern on both socks. The leg can be made short - one pattern repeat (2.5 in or 6.4 cm) or longer with up to three pattern repeats (7 in or 19 cm).
Patterning with a modified Greek key and a stylized Greek flower, based on tiles from Santorini, Greece.
100 gr or 400 yards of sock weight yarn in a solid, semi-solid, tonal, or lightly variegated colourway is recommended. Use either a 2.25 mm or 2.5 mm needle to obtain gauge of 8 sts per 2.5 cm (1 inch).
