Green and Red Caterpillar
Oh my gosh, how cute is this little crochet caterpillar? He’d make a great accompaniment to a child’s favorite book! He’s made of individual crocheted disks which are threaded onto a chain-stitched body and then attached to a stuffed head. He can be made with any color scheme at all, so he makes a great stash buster!
Materials
Worsted Weight Yarn
3.25 and 4mm hooks
6mm black safety eyes
Embroidery Floss
Fiberfill
Yarn needle, straight pins, scissors, skewer for stuffing
Size
Gauge is not important to this pattern. The size of your finished product will vary depending on the size yarn and hooks you use. Made with the materials listed, the caterpillar measures about 4” long (when made with 10 body disks). Using a thinner yarn and smaller hooks will yield a smaller item. Using thicker yarn and larger hooks will result in a larger item. An individual crocheter’s yarn tension can also be a factor in sizing as well.
Pattern Notes
The pattern is written for advanced beginner crocheters and beyond (mainly because of the type of terminology used). The advanced beginner is familiar with making amigurumi and understands basic amigurumi crochet terminology and stitches as well as how to sew pieces together, finish off, hide ends, etc. If you are not familiar with all the terms used in this pattern, there are a multitude of tutorials on You Tube that can help. Also feel free to contact me with any questions. I’ll be glad to help in any way I can.
