A gender neutral vest with a bit of a military feel about it. The fabric turns out thick and cosy and the pattern is easily adjustable for custom fitting. It is inspired by my own desire for a vest that doesn’t tuck right up under the arms and get all sweaty. Therefore good for outdoor work, gardening, feeding chickens and foraging in a chilly woodland. Ideal for layering over the different shapes of other garments.
The guiding light when thinking about this garment has been- how can this piece be as sturdy and long lasting as possible? That is why the main body overlaps the shoulder panels, which are picked up to start and grafted to finish rather than just sewn on.

Fitting: Each size is 2 conventional sizes (10 cms) larger than the last. The example shown is size 94 cm worn with 6 cm positive ease.

Construction: Knit flat in pieces, bottom up, main shoulders overlapping shoulder panels. Shoulder panels are picked up and knit last.

Yarn: Sample shown is knitted in Rowan Cocoon. Though Ravelry lists this yarn as a 12 ply I have also seen it referred to as 14 ply. Please swatch before beginning project.
Balls of Rowan Cocoon used: 3 (4, 4, 4, 5)

Needles: 6.5 mm (US 10.5) straight or circular needles used for the main body. 5.0 mm (US 8) circular needle long enough for armhole stitches, used for ribbing.

Skill Level: Suitable for a beginner who would like to practice two ways of picking up stitches.
