One of my favorite birds to spot while birding is the Green Heron. I like to think that Green Herons are always cold (something I can relate to) because their thick necks are often drawn up in their body. Many people do not even realize that Green Heron’s have pretty long necks because they rarely see them stretched out. I designed this hat to celebrate the Green Herons and their necks. The hat will keep your head warm and pairs perfectly with the Green Heron Cowl pattern by me.

This hat is constructed in the round by dropping stitches which are then crocheted up 6 strands at a time to create large knitted stitches. The hat starts with 2x2 ribbing. This hat requires no or minimal crown shaping with decreased stitches. The hat is designed to be stretchy and should cover half or all of your ear. For a slouchier hat, increase the number of body rounds knitted (a multiple of 6).
