"If this pullover had been only red and yellow, the colors would have seemed strident, but adding a closely related background color on the sleeves and part of the body gives it a more subdued effect. So does the change in motif size; the sleeves and yoke have small elements of the large pattern on the body. Of course, nothing should keep you from knitting the sweater in more tranquil colors. You could try grey-blue, olive green, and rust or barn red, all colors with a long tradition in Norwegian culture."
