This capelet was designed specifically for Shetland Wool Week 2022. It is inspired by the beautiful bead collar like necklaces of Greenland, that are made in an endless number of colours and variations. The capelet is meant for those days when you’d like just that extra little cosy warmth around the neck and shoulders, without anything bunching up in your jacket sleeves.
The capelet is knitted in one piece, top down, with a soft, squishy rib collar folded double. The pearl structure is achieved by combining knit and slip stitches, then turning the piece inside out before working the lace edge. Despite the stranded look to the fabric, you will always only be working with one colour at a time. The lace edge is a modification of the traditional Shetland Old Shell lace.
The pattern is for double knit weight yarn, but can also be applied to Jumperweight or Aran, though this will affect the size and dimensions of the capelet.

Tension
9 sts & 13 rows in body pattern = 5 cm after blocking. It is always wise to do a swatch to establish your tension; adjust your needle size accordingly.

Size after blocking
Length from folded collar to lowest edge: ca 31 cm
Circumference at bottom edge: ca 114cm
Size can be adjusted by using larger or smaller needles; alternatively by using a lighter or heavier weight yarn, such as Jumperweight (lighter weight) or Aran (heavier).

Techniques
knitting in the round, knit stitch, purl stitch, yarn over, slip stitch, increasing, decreasing.
