Speckled greenshield lichen (Flavopunctelia flaventior) is a foliose lichen found in southern Alberta. It can be found on fallen timber on the shady sides of forests in the foothills and mountains. The colour of this pale green lichen was the inspiration for this slightly tapering neck cowl.

Skills used - Knitting and purling in the round, increasing, decreasing

Circumference: 84 cm / 33 inches unstretched; 120 cm / 47 inches stretched
Height: 35 cm / 13 ¾ inches

Gauge – unstretched and unblocked
12 stitches and 9 Rows = 5 cm / 2 inches in lace stitch pattern on US 8 (5 mm) needles

Approximate yardage - est. 100 g / 3.5 oz. (200 m / 220 yds)

Yarn - Marnel Classic Worsted 100 m / 50 g (110 yds / 1 ¾ oz), 2 balls. Colour 1350 Mint Green. Any currently available Worsted (#4) yarn with similar yardage may be substituted.

Needles - US 8 (5 mm) circular, 22″ / 56 cm long
