Greta Garbo Women's Pullover
This pullover features the intricate pattern of a sweater worn by Hollywood’s legendary star Greta Garbo, where knit stitch columns and interweaving diamond panels ingeniously unite to form a hexagonal pattern. In the Roaring Twenties, this pattern probably was a fashionable version of the traditional Swedish sweaters Spedetröja.
The pattern adorns the bottom half of the pullover and moves into a lean ribbed texture for contemporary styling. Cuffs, waistband and neckband mirror the pattern, bringing unity and grace to the design.
The pullover is an easy knit, given that it is only knit and purl. It is worked in the round from the bottom up. Body and sleeves are worked as separate tubes from the lower edge to the armholes. Then the pieces are joined and worked in a tapered tube. This makes reading the charts easier, and there is only a small seam under the armhole to sew up after the knitting is complete.
Waist, sleeve and front neck shaping are added for a tailored fit. Together with the raglan shaping this gives the pullover good structure and stability to make it always hang straight.
For your convenience, there are separate instructions in an attractive layout for each size (36, 38, 40, 42, 44 and 46). You may find my full descriptions easier to follow than the standard brief and cryptic ones.
The light knitted fabric in fingering weight wool will keep you comfortably warm. For women who desire elegance in daily life.
