It’s such a grey day! I do hope you have some sun (or snow) wherever you are, but right here it’s just grey, grey, grey….
A lovely, cozy cardigan is what I need to cheer me up:)
And here it is, my Grey Days cardigan.
Anyone should be able to knit this one!
It is worked in an Aran weight yarn (which means a fast knit), the patterning is really simple (although with nice texture to make it interesting), there are NO seams, buttonholes are integrated….
The only thing you need to think about is which lovely colour you would like to wear on a grey day:)

Construction
Body is worked bottom-up in one piece to underarms, where work is split for fronts and back to be continued in separate pieces.
The shoulders are worked together using the 3-needle bind-off method (or bound off and seamed, if you prefer).
The collar is worked from picked-up and spared sts.
The sleeves are worked top-down, starting from the sleeve-cap created by short-rows, thereafter the sleeves is worked in-the-round to bind-off.

Sizes
There are 7 sizes to choose from. Finished chest, when buttoned:
XX – Small: 86 cm/34” X - Small: 94 cm/37”
Small: 101 cm/40”
Medium: 109 cm/43” Large: 115 cm/45 “ X-Large: 124 cm/48.5” XX-Large: 131 cm/52”
The sample is worked in size X-Small, with plenty of room for layering.

MaterialsYarn: I used the Aran weight merino yarn “Cyrano” from De Rerum Natura. This yarn comes in balls of 100 gr/3.53 oz and 150 meters/164yards. You will need approximately 6/6/7/8/9/10/11 balls of this specific yarn to work the cardigan. I recommend that you use an Aran (or worsted weight) that knits up to gauge. Cascade Aran would be perfect. Needles: a circular needle 100 cm/40” long, size 5 mm/US8 for the main body. Straight needles 5 mm/US8 for the upper body. A set of dpns 5 mm/US8 (or a circular needle 5 mm/US8 if working the magic loop) for the sleeves. Straight needles 4 mm/US6 for the collar.

Gauge
16 sts and 23 rows in stockinette sts = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4”

Knitting skills
I believe that an adventurous beginner could work this cardigan.
Techniques: cast-on, bind off, k and p sts, k2tog, ssk, p2tog,
picking up sts, working short-rows (no need to pick up the wraps).
