Grey Fair Isle Mitts
If you purchase 3 patterns from my Ravelry Store at the same time (add them all to your cart before you check out), the least expensive one will be free.
These cosy fair isle fingerless mitts knit up reasonably quickly, using just two balls of Rowan Fine Tweed 4ply wool in a main colour, along with up to 7 contrast colours in fingering weight yarns for the cuffs.
The perfect project to use up all those stash oddments, the pattern gives two fair isle colourways: Blue (blues, grey, green, red and mustard) or Rust (brown, beige, rust, orange, purple and pale blue), with a choice of either a picot or ribbed hem.
Suggested yarns:
Blue Colourway:
Rowan Fine Tweed shade Buckden (2 balls)
Rowan Fine Tweed shade Nappa 30m
Brooklyn Tweed Loft in shade Sap 80m
Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift, approximately 30m each of:
Admiral Navy, Clyde Blue, Crimson, Sapphire and Scotch Broom
Rust Colourway:
Rowan Fine Tweed shade Bedale (2 balls)
Rowan Fine Tweed shades Nappa and Reeth 30m
J C Rennie Supersoft Lambswool shades Iris, Sienna and Spice approx 30m
Needles
Suggested needles: 2.75mm / 3mm for small circumference in the round : dpns, or 1 long or 2 short circulars (use sizes to obtain gauge)
30 st / 36 rounds = 10cm over stranded pattern
28 st / 40 rounds = 10cm over plain stocking stitch
Size
One size, to fit hand circumference approx 7-8” (18-20cm), with the fair isle cuff circumference 6.5” (16cm) around wrist. The fair isle cuff depth is approx 3” (7.5cm)
Notes and Construction
The pattern is for knitting in the round, and is knit from bottom to top. There are charts for the Blue and Rust colourways, with written instructions for the top (plain) hand part. Choice of picot or ribbed hem.
The pattern charts can be used as part of other projects - eg one of the photos (not included in the pattern instructions) shows a hat knitted in a navy colourway.
