I wish you could feel the squishy and cozy fabric of this sweater!
It is perfect for play and cool weather, a must-have in a childs outdoor wardrobe:)

With the “Grey Pebbles” sweater I enter into designing boy-clothes for the first time:) I sincerely think that the sweater is suitable for any child, boy or girl, but for the first time I present something a bit rougher and without lace or frills…:)

Design Sections of fishermans rib and garter st give this sweater a cozy and comfortable fit. There is lots of room for playing and thumbling around in it:)
The hem, cuffs and collar is worked in rib-pattern k1, p1. The collar is flexible and roomy enough to enter the head through without tears:)

Construction
I would love to say that the sweater is completely seamless, but you need to make up one seam: the short-side of the collar needst to be seamed towards the neck-opening of the front. It’s not a VERY long seam, still it’s a seam…. Apart from that there are no seaming at all.
The lower body of the sweater is worked bottom up and in the round to underarms. Work is divided and upper back, upper right and left front are continued in separate pieces and back-and-forth. The shoulders are worked together from WS using the 3-needle bind-off method. Sleeves are worked top-down and in the round.
The collar is worked back-and-forth from picked-up sts around the neck.

Sizes: Please note that the sizes given in ages are approximative. I advise that you measure the child and/or a favorite sweater before choosing the size you want to work.
Finished chest measurement (after washing and blocking: 6mo - 1 year 52cm/20.5” / 1-2 years 57cm/22.25” / 2-3 years 61cm/24” / 3-4 years 65cm/25.5” / 5-6 years 70cm/27.5” / 7 years 74cm/29”

Materials
Yarn: I used AlpakkaUll from Sandnes Garn to work the sweater. This worsted weight yarn comes in balls of 50g4/1.75oz and 100m/109yards. You will need 3/4/4/5/6/7 balls of MC (dark grey), 1/2/2/2/2/2 balls of CC (light grey) of this specific yarn to work the sweater. Needles: 1 circular needle, 60cm/24” in size 4mm/US6 to work the ribbed hem of the body and the collar. 1 circular needle, 60cm/24” in size 5mm/US8 to work the lower body. Straight (or circular needle), size 5mm/US8 to work the upper body. Dpns (or circular needle, if working the magic loop), size 5mm/US8 to work the sleeves. Dpns (or circular needle), size 4mm/US6 for the cuffs. Needle size is a suggestion only, you need to work a swatch to determine your gauge. Notions: removable stitch-markers, separate holders, tapestry needle. A rowcounter is useful.

Gauge 19 sts in fishermans rib. (RS: k1below, p1, WS: k1, p1). The gauge is taken when fabric is unstretched.
