Grimaldi Pullover
This light and airy Pullover is inspired by the 19th century actor, comedian and dancer Joseph Grimaldi, who wore a distinctive costume for his stage performances.
The pullover is knitted bottom up, using basic stitches and two colours of yarn. The red diamond contrast stitch is knitted using Mohair and a pick-up stitch method. The Main yarn is Drops Melody, which is soft and light to the touch.
The best thing- there are no floats as in stranded knitting or multiple balls of yarn.
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate.
Stitches used: k, p, sl, m1, catch strands from purl row below, inc 1 - 3.
MATERIALS REQUIRED
• MC - 5 x 50 g balls 700 m or 765 yds using Drops Melody (01 colour uni shade) yarn.
• CC - 1 x 100 g balls (200 m or 164 yds) using Alize Mohair Classic yarn. Colour shade 57. Alternatively, you can use Drops Brushed Alpaca 1 or 2 strands held together, depending what look do you want.
NB If you substitute another yarn, please check tension and yardage.
• 1 Circular needle 6.00 mm x 80 cm (US 10).
• 1 Circular needle 7.00 mm x 80 cm (US 10 ¾).
• 1 Tapestry needle.
• 1 Stitch Marker.
ACTUAL MEASUREMENTS
SIZES: M/L.
Pullover flat width (just below armhole) - 63 cm / 24 ¾ ins.
Length (from top of the shoulder) - 53 cm / 21 ins.
Sleeve length (from top of the shoulder) - 63 cm / 24 ¾ ins.
Sleeve width (just below armhole) - 19 cm / 7 ½ ins.
GAUGE (Tension): 14 sts and 17 rows = 10 cm (4 ins), measured over Stockinette st pattern, (garment being blocked), using 7.00 mm (US 10) needle.
NB Needle size is only a guide - if you get too many stitches for 10 cm, take a larger needle size. If you get too few stitches for 10 cm, take a smaller needle
size. It’s very important to check your gauge (tension) before starting as working to the wrong tension will mean your garment won’t be size shown.
