Grizzly bear
Since I have a real liking for nature’s most peculiar, weird, mysterious or misunderstood underdogs I decided to design some of them for anyone who wants to get to know these natural weirdo’s a little better!
The grizzly bear might first be described as “grisly”, which can be interpreted as “fear-inspiring” or “gruesome”; however it can also be portrayed as “grizzly” or “grizzled”, meaning “with golden and grey tips of the hair“. Your knitted grizzly bear might not turn out particularly fear-inspiring or gruesome, but just cute and adorable! However, don’t forget to devote some effort to choosing your yarns for its’ gorgeous “grizzly” coat!
This grizzly bear is an easy, fast and fun project, knitted on 2.25 mm double pointed needles (UK 13, US 1) in Lopi Einband (0887) chocolate, worked together with Lopi Einband (0885) oatmeal heather and it measures 18 cm from nose to bum.
Soft toy filling was used to fill the grizzly bear, that can easily stand up unsupported.
While knitting, some body parts are kept on spare needles, to be embodied into the knit later on. The project asks for some knitting in the round and flat and transferring of stitches
To give the bear its’ signature grizzled appearance, blend dark brown and greyish (lace-gauged) yarns. Not merely the colors, but also the textures of your chosen yarns define the bears’ look: Use a coarse or bristly type of yarn (like a tweed) for a rugged appearance or a thin, downy type yarn (like a mohair) for a woolly, shaggy look.
Have a beary fun knit! Viv
