This very warm hat is for the coldest days and nights of winter. A notch in the brim, worn in the back, makes the hat comfortable and allows a fit for different head sizes. Hat is worked flat for the ribbing, and then worked bottom up in the round.
Directions are given for one size with finished measurements of an 18”/46cm unstretched circumference around lower edge of hat. Depth will be 9”/23cm, not including pom pom.
Pattern requires the following skills: working ribbing, knitting in the round on circular and/or double pointed needles, increasing, decreasing, stranded color work, making a pom pom (optional).
MC requires a minimum of 114yds/105m, 95g
CC requires 84yds/77m, 70g. If substituting yarn, it is recommended that a plied, chunky weight yarn be chosen so that hat will be durable with a dense fabric.
Motif was selected from the book, 150 Scandinavian Motifs: The Knitter’s Directory by Mary Jane Mucklestone, published by Interweave Press.
