About this pattern:
Grouse Mountain is a ski hill in beautiful Vancouver, Canada. Like its namesake, the Grouse Mountain Hat is a little bit urban, and a little bit outdoorsy. This funky modern toque features a very easy cable pattern of raised circles. Knit in chunky yarn, the hat is cozy and warm, but best of all: quick to knit! For a feminine twist, I added a faux fur pom-pom from Bernat.

Dimensions:
Pattern comes in three sizes (S, M, L) to fit head circumferences of 21” (23”, 25”) | 53 (58, 61) cm. Easily add more circumference or slouch by adding more repeats of the cable pattern.

Yarn:
Malabrigo Chunky: bulky weight, 100% superwash merino wool; (100 g); 100 yards (90 metres). Shown in pearl (30) colourway. Faux fur pom-pom is by Bernat.

Note that Malabrigo Chunky is more “bulky” than “chunky”, so check your gauge. You may need to go up a size.

Yardage:
Approximately 90 g (95 g, 100 g); 90 (95, 100) yds / 80 (85, 90) m. You will need extra yardage for a slouchier hat, or if you want to add a pom-pom.

Skill Level:
This pattern is suitable for an advanced beginner or intermediate knitter who is familiar with knitting in the round, basic increases decreases; and cables. Links to video tutorials are provided within the pattern.

Pattern Notes:
This hat is knit from the bottom-up, in-the-round, with a ribbed hem and a cable pattern that repeats over 6 sts and 8 rounds.

A Note About Needle Sizes:
I understand that it may be hard to get 6.5 mm needle tips in Europe, so for my European friends, please use your 7 mm needle tips when directed to use 6.5 mm needles.
