Growth
This shawl was initially designed for a Sundara Yarn Club called The Petals Collection. When I was asked to design for it, all I could think of was a garden blooming, slowly opening to life… Like the wings of a butterfly.
I wanted to create something simple, with texture, that could show off the true beauty in this unique yarn, and that’s how Growth was born. Slowly experimenting with the stitches as my own project grew.
Knitting this shawl is easier than you might think. While the pattern spreads out in several pages, each section is achievable without short-rows, picked up stitches or any other complicated techniques.
Just yards of complete bliss as you knit your whiles away, following the pattern just one section at a time. Slowly the design unfurls itself, like a new leaf opening to the sun.
Finished Measurements:
66” (165 cm) from side to side and 24 (60 cm) from top to bottom at deepest point (after blocking).
Materials:
Yarn: 2 skeins of Sport Silky Cashmere by Sundara Yarn (65% White Cashmere / 35% Silk - 100g / 320y / 290m), or approx. 580 yards of sport weight yarn. The sample was made using colourway ‘Winter Orchid’.
Needles: US 6 (4mm) circular needles.
Other notions: Stitch markers, tapestry needle, blocking pins or wires.
Gauge: 29 st and 28 rows to 4” (10cm) in twisted ribbing (ktbl, p1) on US 6 (4mm) needles UNSTRETCHED.
Gauge is not crucial for this project, but differences in it might result in a different size shawl or different yardage requirements.
