I released an update on April 23 of 2020 that includes links to instructional videos. If you downloaded it previously, you will NOT receive an update because it is a FREE pattern. You will need to download it again.
The perfect pattern for that laceweight or fingering yarn that you just couldn’t resist. Knit from end-to-end, you increase until you have used half your yarn, then switch to decreasing – no “yarn chicken” and a lovely, long triangular shawl! The dimensions are longer and a little narrower than a typical triangle shawl – perfect for wrapping! Garter stitch is relaxing, reversible, and shows off tonal, variegated and hand painted yarns. With a knit-on I-cord edge on one side and a lovely frilly knit-on lace on the other, there’s no finishing either! Simple, but not too simple, this is fun and easy knitting.
Yarn: 100 grams of lace weight yarn or 200 grams of fingering weight; that is, approximately 800 yards. I like a washable wool for practicality or a luscious silk blend for special occasions. Choose something that feels good next to your skin. This yardage makes a generously sized shawl, but you can use half this much and have lovely scarf.
Needles: two sizes larger than what is recommended on the ball band. For laceweight, 3.00 – 3.5 mm, for sock weight, 3.75 -4.50 mm.
Gauge: a fabric you find pleasing in garter stitch. Swatch, wash and see if you like the density and drape of the fabric. Or, simply start knitting with the needle you have!
