Guernsey-ish Baby Blanket
Intro: Inspired by Guernsey/Gansey sweaters, this baby blanket gets its playful name from the long internet rabbit hole I fell down one day. I love the clean lines and mix of textures that characterize these classic sweaters, but I confess I exited the rabbit hole with no additional clarity about the exact origins of the style, nor about the difference between the two terms (or indeed, whether there is a difference!). Regardless of what you call it, this blanket pattern is a joy to knit.
Featuring three reversible textured stitch patterns, the Guernsey-ish Baby Blanket has strong horizontal lines. The textured panels are layered with garter stitch for a striking and squishy blanket that is perfect for gifting. There are no holes for cute little toes to get stuck in, and the blanket looks beautiful no matter which side is up.
Construction: The blanket is worked in one piece, using just knits and purls. Each stitch pattern has written instructions and a chart. The garter edge is worked at the same time, so there is no finishing to do!
Yardage: 750-800 yards DK (3) weight yarn (Cascade Yarns Anchor Bay in Dusky Aqua shown).
Level: Advanced beginner/intermediate. This pattern uses only knits and purls. Both charts and written instructions are included. The format is as follows: first, the framework of the pattern is presented. This gives the cast-on and the order of sections to work before binding off. The charts and written instructions for each of the patterned sections (i.e., the non-garter sections) are on the pages following this information.
Dimensions: Roughly 31 x 30”/79 x 76 cm. Tips are given in the pattern for achieving other sizes, but it is only written out for the baby blanket size.
