Guitar Trim Hat
I knit several prototypes of this hat, and my musician husband kept commenting on how much the pattern looked like guitar trim. (The trim is called herringbone.) I happily gave in to his suggestion. These hats finish quickly with well-planned colorwork. There are merely 6 rows that use two colors on the same row! (Knit edge-to-top.)
If you have a guitar aficionado in your life, knit one with an ebony/ivory band on woodtone/brown! I made one in natural alpaca shades which worked well.
Gauge: 5.5 st/in and 6.5 rows/in.
Sizes: Child S Adult XS / Child M Adult S / Child L Adult M / Adult L / Adult XL, Finished circumference: appx. 16.75 / 17.5 / 18.25 / 19 / 19.75 inch. (An adult medium head is appx. 22 inches, a snug-fitting hat should be 3-5” less than head circumference.)
Needle Size: US 4 / 3.5mm needles, either three 7” long double-pointed needles (DPNs) or a small-diameter circular needle (appx. 16” in length) for most of the hat, switching to DPNs for the last inch or so.
Notions: Stitch Markers (8), large-eyed sewing needle.
Yarn: Three 50gm balls of DK-weight yarn which knits to the stated gauge. Solid colors with good contrast.
