This shawlette is knit in three parts, the body and two wings. It starts out like a typical top down triangle shawl, once the height is complete, you work on one wing, then the other.
I fell in love with the gull wing pattern used by Elizabeth Zimmerman in the February Baby Sweater and have used it in the February Lady Sweater and a shawl. I just can’t get enough!
This pattern is formatted the way I work patterns. There are places for yarn ball weights at various spots… I weigh the ball as I go, to maximize use of a ball of yarn. This can give you a heads up if you need to stop a feather short or if you can add extra feathers (It’s easier than ripping back). The yoke and body should use 35-40% of your yarn and each feather can use up to half of the remaining yarn, about 30%. There are also check boxes for rows and increase stitch counts.

If you are working with less yarn, check your percentage use and do fewer body increases or feathers.

Thanks to Jill and Beth at Ewe + You, Irvine CA for your encouragement and inspirational yarn!
