Hairst Mön Mittens
The Hairst Mön Mittens will be part of a kit created by Simply Shetland and sold through our retailers starting in early February. The pattern will become available individually at a later date.
Size
Hand Circumference: 9” / 23 cm
Length from cuff to top: 9 ½”/ 24 cm
Note: Additional length can be added to the ribbed cuff or as plain rnds of knitting after the main motif on the hand and at the top of the thumb.
Needles
US 3 / 3.25mm long circular needle to work magic loop or DPNS
US 5 / 3.75mm long circular needle to work magic loop or DPNS
Always use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

DK weight yarn in the following amounts:
Note: The main color yardage is right at a full ball so it is recommended to have an extra ball on hand especially if you need to add any length to the mittens.
MC: 82 yds / m
CC1: 65 yds / 18 m
CC2: 45 yds / 27.5 m
CC3: 15 yds / 18 m
CC4: 20 yds / 14 m

Notions
2 stitch markers, tapestry needle for weaving in ends, scrap yarn to hold sts.
Gauge
27 sts & 29 rounds = 4” / 10cm over Fair Isle Pattern on US 5 / 3.75mm needles after blocking
26 sts & 32 rounds = 4” / 10cm in Rib Pattern on US 3 / 3.25 mm needles after blocking
Notes
These colorwork mittens are worked bottom up with thumb gusset shaping. Once the thumb shaping is finished those stitches are put on hold and the remainder of the hand is worked in the round and finished with fingertip shaping similar to what you would find in a hat crown.
Additional length can be added to the thumb and hand area by working more plain rows or working additional ribbing rows.
