Lately I’ve been playing with different shapes and combining those to make the traditional triangular shawl. This shawl begins with knitting the center square section. The left, right and bottom triangles are then knit in succession and are shaped with decreases every other row.

With the garter stitch, this shawl is reversible and sports a different stripe pattern on the reverse. It is also soft and squishy, which is never a bad thing in a shawl. :)

The pattern is written out, and features a diagram to assist with construction of the shawl (no pieces are sewn together, they are created one at a time from the main square section).

These are the stitches you’ll need to know:

k – knit
k2tog tbl – knit the next 2 stitches together through the back loops
k2tog tfl – knit the next 2 stitches together through the front loops
k3tog – sl 1 stitch, k2tog tfl, pass slipped stitch back over
m1 – pick up the bar between stitches with the left hand needle from front to back. k into the back of this stitch.
pm – place marker
sl – slip stitch purlwise
sm – slip marker
yf – take yarn between needles to front of work
