This lap afghan features a unique motif: short lengths of cable interchanging with small rectangles of half brioche for a checkerboard or a basketweave look.

Regardless, it’s very cool-looking and fun to make.

This square blanket is worked from the top up. The construction is very simple. The pattern is a combination of Half Brioche and cables. Half Brioche pattern is called thus because we slip a stitch with the yarn over (yo) only in right side (RS) rows and we work brioche purl (brp) in wrong side (WS) rows.

It can also be used as a baby blanket.
