This is a simple “recipe” for knitted preemie hats. The pattern includes instructions for knitting the hats on either straight needles or DPNs (however, if you are knitting the hat on straight needles, there is a bit of seaming), as well as several different brim options.

Materials:

• US Size 5 (3.75 mm) straight needles or DPNs.
• Worsted weight yarn (as long as it is soft!)
• A tapestry or yarn needle (for weaving in ends)

If you will be donating hats to a hospital or charity, you may want to check with them first, as they may have certain rules when it comes to yarn content, color, etc. It’s usually best to make your hats out of soft and washable acrylic yarn.
