Half the Knit Sky is a top down half circle shawlette inspired by time lapse photos of a starry night. This easy knit uses only one color per row. Slip stitches create the colorwork star trail stripes, and the star stitch rows are a pop of fun. A bit of lace near the end sends you into orbit! The half-pi construction keeps your patterning simple with only occasional changes in stitch count.

This pattern uses two contrasting colors of fingering weight yarn, approximately 400 yards each. The pattern is adaptable to the yardage you have. I used almost every bit of my Knit Circus Sparkle main color (388 yards), and had some Trampoline left over. I used most of my Knit Picks MC (357 yards), and about 80% of my CC. You can add more star trails if you have more yardage.

Gauge not critical; knit a fabric you like. I used a US 4 needle for the Knit Circus yarn, and a US 5 needle for the Knit Picks Hawthorne.

The star stitch is created with elongated stitches using multiple yarnovers, which are dropped on the following row. Use a circular needle with a smooth join between cable and needle tip, so your yarnovers can move along smoothly.
