Pattern Details
Halfling’s Garden Party Cowl is an easily modifiable cowl inspired by the hobbits of Tolkien’s Shire. The cowl is a tube knit fully in the round, utilizing a provisional cast-on and grafting to connect the ends. Pick your favorite color combinations and cast-on your very own Shire garden!

Finished dimensions: 16.25 in (41 cm) width; 33 in (84 cm) circumference

Needle Size: Size US 5/3.75mm circular needles; 24 in (60 cm), 32 in (80 cm) and 60 in (150 cm) cords

Gauge: “Flowers (Light & Dark)” - 27 sts x 29 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) x 4 in (10 cm)

Amount of yarn needed:
Main Color (MC) - 4 skeins of Holst Supersoft or 942 yards (861 meters) or 200 g of a similar non-superwash fingering weight yarn

Contrast Color (CC) - 3 skeins of Holst Supersoft or 628 yards (574 meters) or 150 g of a similar non-superwash fingering weight yarn.

Notions:
Stitch markers, tapestry needle, Size 5 (3.75 mm) crochet hook (optional for provisional cast-on)

Techniques Required: Knitting with two colors in the round, grafting, provisional cast on, grafting two ends together, reading charts is helpful but not required. All colorwork charts are written out.

Notes:
Modifications - The fit of this cowl is designed to sit close to your face. To make the cowl wider, add in extra chart repeats by adding in 22 more stitches across. Each repeat adds 1.75 inches (4.5 cm) in width. To add extra length, add in extra vertical repeats. Each repeat adds 5.5 inches (14 cm) to the circumference.

Charts - While charts are included in this pattern, all colorwork charts are also written out.
