Hallgrim Scarf
One thing leads to another. The Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavík, Iceland, inspired the design of Charles Gandy’s Hallgrim Hat and Mittens. In turn, his design inspired me to knit a coordinating scarf. When he saw I’d answered pattern requests by saying the design motif was not mine to publish, Charles offered his permission to me! So, with the kind permission of Charles Gandy, I present my Hallgrim Scarf.
There is something romantic about the simple, flowing lines of this design. It hints at Arts and Crafts Movement and Prairie School styles mixed with, dare I say, a touch of Lothlórien. Because the cable motifs at each end are joined by a length of pattern ribbing, the scarf can be knit to most any length. If you’re comfortable with 1x1 cables and knitting/purling through the back loop, it’s time to cast on!
