Halloween Mosaic Square - Sugar Cat Skull
This Sugar Cat Skull square uses the overlay mosaic crochet technique with some color switching in some rows for added detail. This square can be used in other types of projects, such as blankets, pillows, satchel bags, table mats, etc.
The main image shows rhinestones added to the finished square, which are optional - this would be a fun project to embellish with other items such as beads or little crocheted flowers which are all up to the imagination!
Any yarn or hook will work, depending on the desired size of the finished square. I used yarn weight of 4 with a 5.5 hook, which creates a square of 13.5” x 13”.
For the sample image, you will need 5 colors of yarn - I used red-orange for the background, white for the skull, black for the border & outlines, green for the eyes, & some scrap purple for the facial markings.
This is a great way to use up scraps! For projects using similar colors & yarn with a 5.5 hook, you will need approximately 1.5-2 oz of the background color, 1.5 oz of black, 1 oz of white, and a few yards of the green & purple, or whatever colors you choose. This all comes to around 4 oz total when finished.
Pattern is in US crochet terms.
