Halloween Pocket Mice
KNITTING PATTERN for a sweet little pocket-sized mouse (5” tall), together with a choice of clothes for Hallowe’en: A witch’s lacy dress & hat and a Wizard’s tunic, coat & hat.
Instructions are written in English with lots of photos & handy hints to help you make your pocket mouse.
This is an ideal pattern for a new knitter looking for their ‘next step’ - the sort of patterns I would have loved to have when I was 8 or 9 - a chance to practice more than knit & purl in quick to finish projects. AND, you can message Mrs K on the Ravelry account if you have any questions.
This pattern has been designed as a budget make & can be made from scraps of 2-ply & 4-ply yarn. If you don’t have any scrap, you can buy small quantities of yarn such as crewel yarn / mending yarn so you’re not paying for yarn you won’t use – I’ve kept to 2 colours for the outfits to help the yarn go as far as possible.
You will need
● 2.75mm & 2mm needles – charity shops are a great place to find pre-loved needles.
● Scraps of 4-ply & 2-ply yarn if you have any lying around
(Crewel wool is available in 2-ply & 4-ply in a range of colours and in small quantities so you’re not paying for yarn you won’t use. )
● Small quantity of toy stuffing
For the mouse
● one pair of 2.75mm (UK 12, US 2) needles
● 6 g of brown 4-ply yarn (Of course, you can make your
mouse any colour you like)
● 2g of white 4-ply yarn (for underwear & socks)
● 1g of black 4-ply yarn (for shoes) (Or you can make shoes
the same colour as the outfit - just double the 2-ply yarn
over to make it 4-ply)
For the Witch outfit
● One pair of 2mm (UK 10, US 0) needles
● 24m for dress (If you want to make a 2-tone dress, skirt &
sleeves: 19m & Bodice: 5m)
Hat: 6.5m
For the Wizard Outfit
● Coat & Hat 45m
● Tunic 17m start with 20m
In Total (estimated) to make a mouse and one witch & one wizard costume:
● 4-ply brown yarn: 15m per mouse
● 4-ply white yarn: 4m per mouse
● 4-ply black yarn: 2m per mouse
● 2-ply main colour yarn: 69m
● 2-ply contrast yarn (for the wizard’s tunic): 17m
