This is a pattern to crochet your own pumpkin face Jack O’ Lantern heart jar cosy / cozy for Halloween. Use it to transform ordinary glass jars into a holder to keep pencils/brushes or nick-nacks in. Alternatively it could be a vase for flowers or put tealights in to cast a warm candle glow on your table or mantlepiece.

After payment, you will have access to two downloadable PDF documents. One is written in US terminology and the other in UK. It is 14 pages long with helpful tips and colour photographs to assist. You do not need to be able to read charts to use this pattern, each round is fully written out. Three black and white charts are also provided for chart readers.

Helpful hints and full colour tutorial photographs are included.

You will need advance knowledge of basic crochet stitches and eTr-extended treble(UK)/eDc-extended double(US) stitch. Full written instructions are given for working extended stitches but if you have never worked them before, visual learners may want to familiarise themselves by watching some You Tube videos.

I am classing this as an intermediate pattern as the stitches are combined in ways that may not be familiar. However, I do not wish to discourage beginners with some experience from buying the pattern. I am happy to provide e-mail pattern support for any ambitious beginners needing assistance.

The jar cosy / cozy will fit ordinary straight-sided glass jars between 11cm to 17cm (4 to 7 inches) high with a circumference of 21 to 27cm (9 to 10 ½ inches). A wide range of supermarket foodstuffs come in jars this size typically containing goods weighing approximately 340-450g. A 400g jar of Hellman’s mayonnaise is ideal (I’m not being paid to include that brand name, I just eat alot of it!)

The pattern uses a single 25g (140m) ball/skein of 2ply mercerised cotton yarn. The first two photographs show the pattern worked up Scheepjes Sweet Treat in colours 521 Deep Violet and 411 Sweet orange. Alternatively you could use Rico Essentials Crochet, the green one on the right hand side of one of the photographs was made in 009 Lt Green.

A typical hook to use is 1.75mm (size O), full instructions on how to check your gauge are given with a separate pattern to make a 4 inch filet crochet square. You will also need a darning needle to weave in your ends (only two!) and scissors to cut your yarn at the end.
