Halloween Shadows

A great first colorwork project, or for using up leftover yarn!

Two styles of pouch, a button flap or drawstring closure, in four coordinating Halloween themes worked in stranded colorwork knitting. Fill them with treats for Halloween gift giving!

Needle size and yarn weights given will result in a 3”x5” bag, but the pattern may be knit with larger needles and heavier yarn weights for larger bags.

Special techniques used in this pattern:

Stranded colorwork

Wrapped short rows

Knitting in the round on double pointed needles

Materials needed: Fingering weight yarn, one ball each of two contrasting colors. Each pouch will use approximately 26 yards of the MC and 20 yards of the CC, so you’ll get several pouches out of two balls of yarn. Yarn shown in photos is KnitPicks Palette wool fingering.

One set #2 double pointed needles

One stitch marker

Size 3 crochet hook for drawstrings (optional)

One 3/8” button for flap model

Tapestry needle for weaving ends

Gauge: Approximately 8 st x 10 r = 1” on #2 needles
