Halloween Town Pullover
One of the most difficult scenes for the stop-motion animators to execute was when Jack leaves Halloween Town, finds the doors in the forest, and reaches for the doorknob that leads him to Christmas Town. Drawn to the bright and jolly door with a Christmas tree, the audience sees Jack’s hand moving toward the knob, along with the reflection of his face, hand, and the forest. Director Henry Selick explains, “The crew had to work inside an eight-by-eight-by-eight-foot box for two weeks, creating a forced perspective image of what Jack sees in the doorknob. We literally built a set to the view in the doorknob, then custom-built the set backward from that view.” Although it appears onscreen for just a few seconds, it’s a visually stunning and important scene where Jack is between two worlds.
An advanced adventure into Halloween Town, this top-down pullover is sure to be your go-to for your autumn wardrobe. Beginning at the 1x1 twisted rib collar and worked in the round, stranded colorwork motifs featuring mysterious swirls and flying bats dance across the yoke. German short rows are added for a better fit, then stitches are put on hold for the sleeves to be worked later. A stockinette torso is worked until the bottom twisted ribbing, then the held stitches are then picked up and worked in the round in Halloween-colored jogless stripes. You can be scary and cozy at the same time!
