This pattern is part of series of clothing I designed for 12” wooden artists’ figures. It includes a Santa Suit, sweaters with sports logos, witches outfit, ghost outfit, bride and groom outfits and more. We’ve enjoyed displaying our figures for different holiday and occasions. After many compliments and much positive feedback, I decided to write patterns to share.

I bought my twelve inch Artists’ figures online from Jerry’s Artarama for about $10. Ikea and many other craft stores also sell them.

The Witches outfit pattern includes instructions on how to make the dress, hat, and broom. It uses just 100 yards (about 50 g.) of worsted weight black yarn. For the broom, I held a double strand of some old scratchy two-tone brown/tan fingering weight yarn I had in my stash. I used 10 grams. You could also use 10 g. of a worsted weight brown or tan yarn.

Pattern is written in excruciating detail and includes 39 pictures to guide you through every step of the way.

I made the broomstick out of a wire hanger, using a wire cutter and pliers to cut and bend it. I taped the bottom with about 2” of electrical tape. I sprayed the yarn at the bottom of the broom with Elmer’s “Craft Bond” spray adhesive to make it stiff and stand on its own.

US size 5 Flexi Flips, or similar, are best tool for the project. Flexi Flips is a brand name for what is essentially a double pointed needle with an inch of cable in the middle. They are sold in tubes of 3 and make knitting small things in the round a breeze.
