The socks are worked in the round from the top down. Instructions are given for working the socks on 4 or 5 double pointed needles. However, the pattern can easily be adapted for knitting on 2 circular needles, or on 1 circular needle, using magic loop.
In addition to the lace version, there is a second textured version, without lace or eyelets.

One skein of yarn is sufficient to make the pair for most foot and leg lengths. For extra long socks additional yarn may be required.

This design is inspired by the first plant/tree to bloom in our garden in spring. It is the Hamamelis or witch hazel. We have a few varieties, but my favourite is the red one that is right outside the kitchen window. When it starts to bloom, we know that spring is here. Some years, it has bloomed as early as late February, and last year it was into April before we saw any colour. This year it bloom at the beginning of February, a record early blooming for our area.
