Hamtaro & Bijou (hamsters)
Hello world! In the theme of lovey dovey February (spoiler: I don’t actually care for Valentine’s day), I’m finally bringing you Hamto and Bijou! I made an earlier version of these 2-3 years ago but they were… subpar, if I word it very nicely, so I’ve been waiting to remake them in a cuter way. And I am so glad I did because boy they are A LOT cuter than my first attempt back then haha! You can make almost any hamster from the Hamtaro franchise following this pattern, all you need to do is adjust the fur patterns and accessories! The only exceptions might be Boss and the 2 baby hamsters due to their different sizes/build, but if you don’t care about that, the world of the HamHamFriends is open to you!
Materials
To make Hamtaro, Bijou or any other of the Hamhams you will need:
– A 2.5mm Crochet hook
– Wool in the corresponding colors (for Hamtaro you will want a cream color and orange, for Bijou white and blue), plus some skin-color/light brown for the feet as well as black embroidery thread/thin yarn for the facial details. If you’re making a sunflower seed you will need a light brown and a dark brown
– Felting supplies and wool in the corresponding colors (You can however try to achieve the fur patterns through crochet only)
– A tapestry needle and scissors
– Stuffing
– A stitch marker to help you keep track of the start of the round
Please note that you can make the Hamhams using any size crochet hook and yarn weight for a smaller or bigger result. I like using DK as it’s most commonly available. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm crochet hook, they should be about 10cm tall.
Stitches & Abbreviations
The pattern is written using US crochet terms in continuous spirals. You will need to know the following kinds of stitches to make him:
– Magic Ring (MR)
– Chaning (Ch)
– Single crochet (sc)
– Decrease (dec); preferably using the invisible decrease method
– Increase (inc)
– Double crochet (Dc)
